Trip overview

  • Start/end point: Al Manama, Sharjah
  • Total distance: 35 km, including about 15 km off-road
  • Difficulty: Beginner
  • Vehicle: Any well-maintained 4x4 SUV
  • Duration: Approximately 4–6 hours

The spirit of the drive

Early morning, or as the afternoon sun begins to soften, a convoy of 4x4s gathers at Al Manama. Engines hum, radios crackle and there is a sense of anticipation as the group leaves paved roads behind. This is a self-drive trip: your vehicle, your pace and your adventure, with experienced guides leading the convoy.

The route is designed to be accessible. There is no hardcore dune bashing or steep climbing—just a beginner-friendly mix of rocky paths, gravel plains and scenic unpaved roads. It can be a good family day out, particularly for children who enjoy exploring safe mountain-trail surroundings.

The route

The 35 km loop combines on-road and off-road exploration. The first section eases drivers into the experience before around 15 km of off-road terrain. Rocky trails, unpaved stretches and wide gravel plains provide variety without the pressure of dunes or difficult technical sections.

It is a relaxed driving experience for first-timers and for anyone who wants an unhurried off-road day.

Scenic highlights

Several rest points punctuate the route. One highlight is a canyon-like area with a natural waterway, offering an opportunity for a short walk, photographs and a pause to enjoy Sharjah’s less-seen outdoor landscapes. Because the route is a loop, the trip returns to its starting point without the need for pickups or drop-offs.

Snacks, safety and setup

Registration includes refreshments, snacks and drinks carried throughout the trip. Participants should still come prepared.

Personal essentials

Bring drinking water, comfortable clothing, sunglasses, a sun hat, hiking shoes and a phone charger.

Vehicle readiness

  • A 4x4 SUV in good condition
  • Properly inflated tyres and one spare tyre
  • A jack and basic tyre-change tools
  • A full fuel tank before the start

A tyre deflator is also recommended. Confirm current requirements with the organiser before the trip.

Communication on the go

The group stays coordinated with PMR 446 walkie-talkies and a dedicated WhatsApp group. The convoy leader keeps the pace relaxed and helps participants remain comfortable and confident throughout the route.
